What are the benefits?
  • Being able to make decisions on activities, services and events we provide, and so making a difference to people's lives.
  • Representing Wargrave House School at meetings with other voluntary organisations and with other professionals.
  • The opportunity to meet new people and be an integral part of a team of dedicated individuals.
What personal qualities and skills are needed? A commitment to the School and its values:

  • A willingness to be available to all staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis.
All trustees should be able to demonstrate basic qualities of commitment and integrity; the Chair would benefit from having additional skills including leadership, communication skills and previous committee experience.
  • Leadership skills
  • Experience of committee work
  • Tact and diplomacy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences
  • In most circumstances it would also be desirable for the chair/vice-chair to have knowledge of the type of work undertaken by the School and a wider involvement with other sectors and networks.
Who should apply?

Anyone over 18 years of age with an interest in helping families and individuals with autism. The current committee is looking particularly for skills in finance, strategic planning, HR, marketing and education/health/social care, but most importantly a lot of enthusiasm and new ideas. Whether you are a professional (retired or active!) or a parent/carer, we would like to hear from you! If you are not able to help at this point in time, but know someone who may be, please pass these details on.

How do I apply?

In the first instance individuals should approach the School or Board members expressing interest. Personal details will be taken and a visit arranged to the School and to meet the Chair of Trustees. Interested applicants should telephone the Director of Services, Sheila Jaeger, on (01925) 224899, or email enquiries@wargravehouse.com.

This position requires an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check.

(Unfortunately, parents/carers of children currently attending Wargrave House are not eligible to apply).
