Music Workshop

Lottery Funding LogoAfter a successful bid to the Lottery Fund ESS were able to purchase a Soundbeam instrument, sound box, amplifier and percussion instruments and book two workshop leaders to run our ‘Me/Us/I/C’ project for the Saturday/ Holiday Clubs.

The workshops provide interactive, purposeful and meaningful activities for club members to engage in, develop and thrive. Children with ASD have unique sensory deficits; music, performing and participation can prove a real challenge for the child, e.g. when the child’s sensory deficit is tactile, the child may be hypersensitive (cannot touch it) or hypo-sensitive (desires the sensation) to the instrument, ‘Me/Us/I/C’ provides an inclusive opportunity for every child to perform and participate regardless of their ability or sensory deficit.

The workshops are of a physical nature and encourage participation and active achievement. Many children with ASD have difficulties expressing their thoughts and feelings. By participating in the workshops, children who are verbal and non-verbal alike have the opportunity to express themselves through music and performance. The project encourages effective communication skills, and builds confidence and self-esteem.
