Rebound Therapy at WHS
Many of the students at Wargrave House take part in regular Rebound Therapy sessions. There are many benefits to this intervention:
Develops motor skills, co-ordination and body awareness.
Promotes regulation of internal emotional state / level of arousal: input can be energizing or calming.
Helps to develop communication skills, turn taking and interaction.
As a cardio vascular activity; 10 minutes on the trampoline is equivalent to a ˝ hour run.
Improves muscle tone.
Most of all it is a motivating and fun activity for our students.
Currently the school uses a large free standing trampoline for Rebound sessions which take place in the gym. Unfortunately, this is a multi-functional space (used for PE, assemblies and drama) and a large amount of time is wasted putting the trampoline up and stowing it away. Also, some of our students with physical difficulties find it difficult to get on and off a high trampoline.
The school would like to purchase a sunken trampoline to be installed in the gym with a covering that matches the floor for when it is not in use. This will give more students the opportunity to access Rebound Therapy and its many benefits!
As parent governors at the school we both appreciate the enormous benefits it would have not only for our own children, but for all the students at Wargrave House. If you feel you would like to help us achieve our goal or wish to find out more we would be only too happy to hear from you.
