At Wargrave House School we have a careers programme in place that ensures that every child will be well equipped for the future and have the information and opportunities they need to make realistic and informed decisions about further education, training and employment.

Entitlement

As a Wargravian learner you will:

Take part in a careers programme that helps you to:

  • understand your education, training, employment and other progression opportunities
  • develop the skills you need to plan and manage your own personal development and career progression
  • access relevant information and learning from taster activities and experience of work
  • make and maintain your individual progression plans
  • improve your prospects of success
  • offer feedback and ideas on how to improve the careers programme

Have access to, and support with using careers information that is:

  • easy to find and available at convenient times and in convenient locations, including on the intranet
  • clearly labelled and referenced
  • comprehensive, giving details of all progression opportunities and associated support arrangements such as financial help
  • unbiased and up-to-date

Obtain careers guidance that is:

  • independent
  • impartial
  • confidential
  • focused on your individual needs and fit for purpose
  • supportive of equal opportunities
  • provided by people with relevant training and expertise

 

Options post 16

When you leave Wargrave House School at16, you may have some of the following options available to you depending on your ability, independence and support needs:

Further education – At a college or training provider to follow a study programme, including Independent Specialist Colleges (ISC). For post 16 options from your local offer please select correct Local Authority:

     St Helens    Warrington    Knowsley   Liverpool    Halton   Wigan   Bolton

Supported Internship– Supported Internships are a study programme for learners with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). You will have a work placement and complete relevant qualifications alongside your placement.  More information

Traineeship- A traineeship is a course with work experience that gets you ready for work or an apprenticeship. It can last from 6 weeks up to 1 year, though most traineeships last for less than 6 months. More information

Apprenticeship- An apprenticeship is a way to gain the skills, knowledge and experience you need to get into many careers. They combine work, training and study, letting you ‘earn while you learn’. Apprenticeships are available across a range of areas. More information

Employment – For supported employment opportunities from your local offer please select correct Local Authority:

St Helens     Warrington      Knowsley    Liverpool    Halton  Wigan    Bolton

Social Care options – community based day activities – this could include day centres, part-time college, social firms, community leisure or sport/fitness activities and supported living/specialist residential care for those who are eligible for services.

 

Careers Information, Advice and Guidance

The school Careers Advisor Viv Worsley (Careers Connect) offers impartial advice and guidance working with learners from Year 7 through to Year 11. To contact or book an appointment please speak to Mrs Carr the Careers Leader.
