CEIAG – Parents and Carers

Entitlement:

All parents and carers can expect to:

• be able to make an appointment with a member of staff or specialist adviser to discuss their children’s progress and future prospects
• have access to teachers, subject leaders, learning partners and specialist advisers at parents’ events
• be invited to look at schemes of work, careers activities, information and resources, using and contributing to them if they wish
• receive invitations to take part in careers and information events such as ‘Provider days’, ‘Parent and Carer Options Coffee Mornings’
• have the opportunity to comment on the usefulness of the careers programme to their children and how it could be improved

Supporting Transition

As part of your son/daughters Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan, the Year 9 annual review and every review after that, will include a focus on preparing for adulthood. This means there should be targets in the EHC plan that will help your child to achieve steps towards preparing for post 16 options. The EHCP will be updated as your child progresses.

When your son/daughter leaves Wargrave House School, they are likely to have some or all of the following options available to them depending on their ability, independence and support needs:

Further education – At a college or training provider to follow a study programme, including Independent Specialist Colleges (ISC). For post 16 options from your local offer please select correct Local Authority:

Supported Internship– Supported Internships are a study programme for learners with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). They will have a work placement and complete relevant qualifications alongside their placement.  More information

Traineeship- A traineeship is a course with work experience that gets you ready for work or an apprenticeship. It can last from 6 weeks up to 1 year, though most traineeships last for less than 6 months. More information

Apprenticeship- An apprenticeship is a way to gain the skills, knowledge and experience you need to get into many careers. They combine work, training and study, letting you ‘earn while you learn’. Apprenticeships are available across a range of areas. More information

Social Care options – community based day activities – this could include day centres, part-time college, social firms, community leisure or sport/fitness activities and supported living/specialist residential care for those who are eligible for services.
